What you’ll find here is a collection of photographs and illustrations, created in Photoshop, and presented not only for viewing pleasure (I hope), but as part of an exercise, one I use in my classes.

There are times when we need something to get us going, to get started on a day’s writing. Some call it writer’s block, others call it funk. Some believe it exists, others don’t. No matter, though, how you think of those moments, something to get the juices flowing is always nice to have around.

The process is simplicity itself. Just choose one of the pictures, look at it, and use what you see or what the image inspires to begin writing. A story, a poem, an essay, anything at all. Does it work? Well, it has in classes; one writer was able to use the story that was born during the exercise as the basis for something that was sold and published.

The gallery will change every month or two, so check back if you find them useful in your writing. And let us know: success stories are always welcome.
